RAC PRIMARY TO RAC STANDBY - Data Guard

Hello,
Can someone please let me know when insatlling 2 node rac to a 2 node RAC standy database. DO you have to install clusterware on the Standby nodes?
Thanks

A standby database is a database. You have to do whatever you do to have a database on a system. There is nothing special about a standby database. You need a system(s), you need disks, the oracle software, you need OracleNet files setup, you need a password file, if you want the standby on ASM you need to have ASm setup, if the standby is to be a RAC standby then you need the clusterware installed and setup.
See the MAA 10g Setup Guide: Creating a RAC Physical Standby Database for a RAC Primary Database at http://www.oracle.com/technology/deploy/availability/pdf/MAA_WP_10g_RACPrimaryRACPhysicalStandby.pdf

Yes ofcourse you have to install clusterware on the standby too.

Yes this is possible.

switch over from single node primary database to two node physical standby

hi,
is it possible to switch over from single node primary rac database to two node rac physical standby database in data guard environment.the database version is 11g r2.
thx
Hi,
yes, it's possible.
For more best practices around RAC and DG look at the MAA page from Oracle:
http://www.oracle.com/goto/maa
Or directly to the database maas:

Hi,
Our requirement is to create single node standby of a 11g R2 RAC 2 node database.

1) Active dataguard
-- Where you can run MRP even in open status, so that it can be only readable.
2) password file on standby should not be created, it should copy from primary and rename it.
3) from 11g you can perform duplicate from active database without backup.
& so on.
To build a stand alone standby from 2-node RAC, MAA pdf is better one

Primary database is RAC and Physical standby is single instance

Hello All,
I am using Oracle RAC 11.2.0.3 as primary database, we are going to start using Oracle data guard.
So I am designing my infrastructure and planing to use Oracle 11.2.0.3 Single instance as my physical stand by database.
My question is it feasible to have my standby database as single instance while the primary is RAC?
is it feasible to build my Oracle single instance standby database from the RMAN backup of the RAC primary database?
Is there any restrictions (or any points to be taken into consideration) since my primary database is RAC while the physical standby is Oracle single instance?
in the below link
[http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28294/concepts.htm#i1039416]
it was mentioned that primary can be RAC or single and same for standby, but my question is it feasible to have primary as RAC while standby as single instance? or it should be like each others?
The primary database can be either a single-instance Oracle database or an Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) database.
Similar to a primary database, a standby database can be either a single-instance Oracle database or an Oracle RAC database.Regards,
My question is it feasible to have my standby database as single instance while the primary is RAC?Yes...quite a common setup.

Hello;
Common setup no issues.
Here's another example :

Thanks for the example, but in the link you mentioned both primary and standby were RAC databases.
I am searching for some help if the primary was RAC and the standby is single instance?
any documentation that supports this ?
I am not able to find a documentation
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28294/rac_support.htm
Apologies...that link was for 11.1.
Here is the link for 11.2 although I doubt there is too much difference:

already gave you the correct points ;) thanks for the info you provided!

Convert Physical standby into 2 node RAC cluster DB

Oracle 11gR2 (11.2.0.3) SuSe Linux 64bit All, Not sure if this would go in the DG forum or RAC forum because it involved both. I was wondering if anyone knew what steps we would take to convert a physical standby into a primary for a RAC cluster. I have not found the exact procedure in the documentation nor Oracle Support. Here is what I have gathered: Convert standby database to a Primary (switchover)Install OCFS2Install ASMlibInstall Oracle ClusterwareInstal ASMInstall DB software -----> problem is that I already have the software installed due to the existence of the standbyGo through manual steps to configure RAC. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks all.
OK so I missed that Grid Infrastructure includes ASM and Clusterware. Let's see if this sounds right: Install Grid InfrastructureInstall Oracle RAC software (software only)Create the Physical StandbySwitchover to make the standby a primaryProceed with steps to configure RAC
Just need a bit of clarification on what you're trying to do. So the host which houses the standby database, you want to convert to a primary database to be used as part of a RAC correct? Will the current primary database also be part of the RAC, or is this going to be an entirely separate configuration?
Why isn't the standby already a RAC database? I would set it up as RAC before I did the switchover, not after.  Cheers,Brian
