11gR2 Data Guard in RAC - Data Guard

Hi ,
I want to setup Data Guard (Physical Standby) between 2 clustered databases (11gR2) with 2 nodes each on RHEL 5 (64 bit). I have completed the setup of Primary RAC but could not find any good document for Data Guard setup in 11gR2. I want to setup the Net Services for RMAN Online Duplicate Database. I reviewed the 11gR1 documentation but it was very different than 11gR2. I also could not understand the SCAN Listeners........
Can someone point out to any document reference or if someone has any notes for the above setup that will be greatly appreciated.
** I have posted this queation in Database - General forums but w/o any productive feedback. **
Thanks
-Samar-

Hi Samar,

I too am trying to understand the SCAN listener setup. I will report back when I get some answers.
Have a look at [MAA 10g Setup Guide: Creating a RAC Physical Standby Database for a RAC Primary Database|http://www.oracle.com/technology/deploy/availability/pdf/MAA_WP_10g_RACPrimaryRACPhysicalStandby.pdf] for a lot of good information.
You can also look at http://www.oracle.com/technology/deploy/availability/pdf/oracle-openworld-2009/adg_hol_2009.pdf 'Appendix A' for some more examples on how to setup things (except for SCAN) when using DUPLICATE FOR STANDBY FROM ACTIVE DATABASE to setup a standby database.

Thanks Satish and Larry for the links.

Hi,
I have the same problem,do you have resolved it ? Can you share the specific configuration steps?

thanks a lot !

HI,
i need help for setuping rac dataguard 11gr2 step by step.
Thanks fyour help

help !!!!!!!!!!!!

There is very little difference between implementing data guard for RAC and implementing RAC on a single node.
One tip I could offer is to be meticulous with going through each step and document as you go because there are many pieces to complete the entire process. You will also need your implementation plan to support the environment going forward.
Trust this helps.

Hello to all.
I am looking forward to implement Logical standby database for one of my clients. I want to know about licensing implications for the same. Does creation of logical standby database in Oracle 10g require a License?? If if it does then what kind of license is required????
Current setup :
RHEL 5.5 64 bit
Oracle Database 10.2.0.4 (Production Server)
Oracle Database 10.2.0.4 (Physical Standby Server)
We are having Enterprise Edition licenses for both.
Somebody please answer my query

Streams on RAC oracle database 11g

Hi Experts,
Could you please someone help me to setup streams on RAC database? I am getting confused how the multiple instances in a RAC will mine the changed data from the source to target system. Whether the downstream data capture is advisable for RAC environment. What are the pros and cons of downstream data capture?
Thanks in advance.

Replication in 10g from AIX platform (primary) to Linux platform (standby)

I support several 10g databases that run on IBM pSeries servers running AIX. I am being asked by our Data Center staff whether or not we can replicate from the primary running on AIX to a standby database running on a Linux server. I am not certain whether the different endian formats will be an issue. Can someone please advise me on this? Thank you!
Hi,
For different endian formats can be possible from 11g onward.
Pl. check the Note 413484.1:
“Data Guard Support for Heterogeneous Primary and Standby Systems in Same Data Guard Configuration”
which may help you
Regards,
Hi,
You cannot have primary at AIX and standby at Linux.
If you want to achieve such replication then you can use Oracle Goldengate for this.
Using Oracle Golden gate you can do such replication.

Anudeep
Vihang and Anudeep,
Thank you to both of you for taking time to reply to my question. Both answers were correct and helpful. I had not considered Oracle GoldenGate, but will look into that product further.
I appreciate you for sharing your knowledge of Oracle with me. Thanks to both of you!

need to understand how the dataguard works in a RAC enviornment

We had a dba just left, and I inherited the system now. I want to be sure I monitor right information on the dataguard.
Help please.
The DBA would have documented how DG is setup / monitored.
Else, read the DataGuard Administration Guide for the version you are running.
start at http://tahiti.oracle.com
If you are not a DBA, you should be equally and more concerned about the Primary database !

RAC Redhat Primary Instance

Hi All,
I'm working on a RAC based project. I'm new to Oracle. I have a quick question: "How do you determine which machine is the primary instance?" Does anybody know what v$ table I should look in?
Thanks
Hi
Please look into
http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96536/ch3.htm#1109169
lajos
There is no concept of a primary instance
in a RAC active-active configuration.
