Simulatlion of Split N Activities - aqualogic.bpm.modeling(Archived)

I'm having trouble digging out of the documentation how to simulate Split N activities in 5.7
Any have an y guidance in this area or can point me in the right direction?

BPMN support

Hi,
I am doing some research on Oracle BPA Suite for a book related work. Now I have some questions regarding complete BPMN support in the suite.
The question is about message flow support for BPMN:
Unlike Aris Easy Designer where there is a separate symbol to create a message flow between a activity and a pool. It just provides a connection button and logically creates relationships. Now i am able to depict a sequence flow (not completely proper as I do not get a black filled arrowhead as per notation), able to depict an association from a artefact symbol, but when i try to make a relationship between a activity in one pool to a boundary of another pool it makes a "belong to" relationship. Am i doing anything wrong here. Also if someone has a sample bpmn diagrams depicted with all elements or a detailed notation support document ,I would be glad if that can be shared.
Anticipating a quick response as its an urgent query, merry christmas all!
Regards
Kapil
Ok, I have figured it out. The message symbol in BPA suite is available but almost transparent till you have a mouse over it :)
Cheers!
1 . Is there a way to restrict two activities in the same lane getting connected using the message?
2 . Is there a way to restrict using a sequence flow to connect one activity to another in different pools?
No currently i do not see a direct way to restrict the way flows behave in a BPMN diagrams unlike some tools like System Architect.
Apart from the two points you mentioned, it should be having multiple rules to really control the way user adheres to the BPMN specifications. I have heard that there would be some updates to the support in upcoming releases.

Direction

Is there a function in Oracle Spatial to get the direction between two points.
I.e. Point A is 30km north east of point B.
I am aware that this question has been asked a few times on this forum. The answer in some of the older posts (around 2003), is that it will be available in future versions. Has it been implemented yet? And if so, from which version onwards is it available.
Thanks,
Eoin.
Eoin,
What are you looking for? An angle so that you can build your own direction string, or a pre-formated string?
Given two points, it's easy to create a function to calculate the angle and length, and then return descriptions however you like. If you need examples on how to do this, please ask.
Hi Bryan,
I would be delighted if you could provide me with a pointer or two to get me going in the right direction (!)
Im not particularly interested in distance at present.
I have a series of points in a table, lets call it PointsTable.
I currently display selected points from PointsTable on a GUI,
what I would like to do is to display a little pointer icon pointing to the proceeding point in the series over certain points on the interface.
Thus I need to calculate the angle between pointA and pointB so that I can rotate the pointer icon at pointA to reflect that angle so that the icon at pointA points in the direction of pointB.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Eoin.

Transition vs. Connector

Hi all,
I'm looking for a clear definition of a BPM Connector vs. a Transition and under what circumstances each would be used. I can't seem to find/understand a clear role for each.
Thanks everyone!!
JI
Effectively they are the same thing. The transition describes the direction of flow in the process, from one activity to the next. A connector is a 'jump' or 'shortcut' to a certain activity. The main purpose of a connector would be to help keep your diagram neat.
As a best practice, it is recommended to keep unconditional transitions horizontal and conditional transitions vertical. This then creates a horizontal 'happy path' that is very easy to follow. Another best practice is to not 'cross' lines. This creates a very 'sloppy' and unorganized diagram. To do this however, you may need to use connectors.
In some cases, you will however need to 'jump' back to a certain activity, or from one of the first activities jump to the end. This is where a connector would come in handy. It removes the need for that monster transition crossing the whole diagram. Beware, however, that too many of these can lead to some confusion, because the diagram loses its connect the dot flow, so use them sparingly.
Hope this helps!

Thanks Kevin. This helps quite a bit!! I thought they were pretty much the same, but you drew the distinction perfectly!!

Alpha-numeric Project No(Prefix-Autonumber-Suffix)

Hi,
With the existing feature(no customization) can i bring this project no in quick entry screen automatically??can any expert help me plzzzzzzzzzzz?
This is the very small feature all the companies can have any combination on deciding Project number sequence...Y oracle is not facilitating this small concept...
P001-SJ-AJ
Please help me.....thanks a lot n advance.........
Hi
Your requirement is not supported by standard functionality.
To get it you will need to customize.
Dina
Thanks a lot Dina 4 ur prompt and quick reply.....
Do any1 help me on customizing the project no part??your valuable replies r highly appreciated.....
thanks a lot n advance.....
Hi,
Plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz some 1 help me with the codings for alpha-numeric project number generation????
P001-ABC-DEF
Thanks a lot in advance.....
Dear,
As i told you before also in "Auto generation of Project number" thread.
From my best knowledge, I think there is no Front-End setup which will generate Automatic Project Number which is AlphaNumeric. In R11, I think there was an option to do that to from "PA_UTILS_SQNUM_PKG.get_unique_proj_num". Because of some Bug, Oracle had removed that option as well.

Khan.

Now i m n R12.1.1 ..old histories r not going 2 help me...i m n need of that functionality....i m requesting some1 to share the coding with me if possible.....
Well, my hunch is no one has done this kind of customization. So I think you are going to be on your own on this one. I see your options as -
1. Submit an enhancement request to Oracle (which won't help you today).
2. Hire Oracle consulting to do a customization that Oracle will support going forward.
3. Figure out how to do the customization yourself.
The obvious question - how would the program know how to compute the next project number automatically? That I think is the problem. You would have to somehow be able to tell the program what coding sequence to use, and then the program would have to somehow figure out the next available number for that coding sequence. So I am thinking you have to enter some kind of basic information about the project to be able to determine all this.
We are a construction company and thus heavily project accounting based. We have different numbering sequences for each location to use. We have little problem with the users being able to determine and input the next available project number for their location. So I am puzzled as to why this functionality is so critical for you to have. But I admit to lack of any knowledge about your company's working environment.
Good luck.

Thank u john for ur posting.what i c n oracle Project module suite z ...a functional consultant alone can really do nothing....When this stage ll change n oracle EBS world?? Despite dis z the known fact,it had not overcome for many years and history of versions....Project suite is really not in the state to facilitate this very small requirement also..if v start thinking things are complicated then everything is complicated.oracle has to overcome all these extensions to facilitate with the functional setup instead client extension.what an excel sheet can do also project module expecting us to write via client extensions.....
Prefix 1 text box + automatic no 1 text box + suffix 1 text box the combination can become alphanumeric project no...
s i need to store project short name and service type short name and i want to combine with automatic generation....at least i need P001 like this to display...i m a pure functional consultant if anybody can come forward with simple steps how to achieve this...wud help other functional consultants also to become a successful delivery manager for the project suite in any business requirements....
Pls friends facilitate this forum as a project suite techno-functional repository....instead only functional...thanks 4 ur tim 2 read...
I have the same requirement and I think Oracle sucks. Moreover you do not have an option to have separate series for different countries if you want to have it.
Initially i was thinking consultants are bluffing/ not knowing the system but after reading lot of material and contacting many consultants .. i think this not the best ERP system.. And people who are used to microsoft applications will find challenge in working with this system becase its GUI is not user freindly

Events and waiting for a RAC architecture

Good afternoon, please , could someone explain me what would be the Y axis of the event report and waits sqldeveloper tool in a RAC architecture? This count would be in millisecond ?

what will you do differently after this question has been answered?
Better understand the report perhaps? The SQL of the report is not exposed. Both looks like they are just counts of wait events rather than elapsed time.
Just wanted to better understand what would be the Y axis , was studying him, however could not reach a conclusion .Well, from what I understand ( perhaps wrongly) that within a particular classification vain stay their respective events, and this event has a certain amount , where the same as that found on the Y axis , however wanted to know what would that amount ? in milliseconds ? Or anything else that still do not know ?Why I can have a "quantity" great in a certain event ( and can have more than one event ) in just a minute .
I don't think it's time waited. As I already said, it looks to me just a count of the waits > Why I can have a "quantity" great in a certain event ( and can have more than one event ) in just a minute .Umm... because you spent more time waiting onthat event that any other? If you don't understand the wait architecture and the underlying data, don't look at the report..https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e40402/waitevents.htm#REFRN101
