can isetup be used to transfer setup+transaction data between prod/dev - LCM: Oracle iSetup

as per "ten ways to user isetup" thread on steven chan blog,
isetup can be used to transfer data data between prod/dev instances (avoiding expensive clones)
is this true? can we transfer not just setup data, but also transaction data using i setup?
(ex: if my total EBIZ size is 200 GB, but i am only interested in testing sales order functionality, can i selectively transfer sales setup+transaction data
from production to dev instance using i setup --- probably 50 GB - so don't have to do 200 GB expensive clone here)

Some types of data can be transferred using iSetup. Not all transaction data can be transferred. Pl see the iSetup Guide at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25516_18/current/html/docset.html

Hi,
This is Mugunthan from iSetup development. Please let me your requirement in detail so that I would be in a better position to answer your question. The reason being, though iSetup does not cover migration of all possible setup data, it does provides mechanism in R12 EBS to write your own APIs and register it with iSetup and use it seamlessly as the other standard APIs supported by iSetup.

Hi
Is there any information on how to setup your own API's to be used with iSetup in R12? For example there is a "Rate Values" record in AZ_API that I would like to utilise but not sure how you would set this up using the interface repository. Also the "Active" field on this record is not "Y" so I assume this would also be an issue.
Am I correct in assuming only FNDLOAD (Generic Loader) types can be setup?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Ashley

Database Tier Refresh

Hi,
I want to do Partial Cloning of the data from the Prod Environment to Test Environment. This means I want to refresh only Foundation/Seed data and other setup data from Prodction to Testing.
I will then generate the other data with data generation script. So do anybody know how we can do this.
Regards
Martand Joshi
You can use isetup to migrate the setups across instnaces.
Though apart from cloning the only other metrhod i can think of is import and export provided you are 100% sure of the tables.

Hi,
Thanks for the infromation related to iSetup. But currently I am working on 11.5.7 and I don't think this feature is available for this version.
=====================================================
Actually I am facing the following PB.
Development Environment 260 GB+
Production Environment 700 GB+
Now I want to refresh Dev Environment with Prod Environment. Here my basic need is not to have the transactional Data but the Setup of the Production Environment. I have found out that the major space occupied in Production Environment is due to data in the tables of GL,AR and AP.
Can U please guide me how to refresh in the Dev Environment without taking the data of the AR, AP and GL.
According to me Export could hav good option but not really as taking the export and Import of such a huge data is not very easy task.
In Short I want to refresh the dev with only Setup data and without any transactional data.
please advice.

Maybe you would want to check out FNDLOAD,you can use this to migrate the following trypes of data
Printer Styles
Lookups
Descriptive Flexfield with all of specific Contexts
Key Flexfield Structures
Concurrent Programs
Value Sets
Value Sets with values
Profile Options
Request Groups
Request Sets
Responsibilities
Menus
Refer to the FNDLOAD Commands to Download Different Seed Data Types (274667.1) metalink note.

Maybe you can refresh the whole database from production first and then use
some homemade scripts to mask all those data you don't want to show in testing
This way might easier.
Thanks Sam ....
I think FNDLOAD is what i am looking for. I think now I am able to the Refersh. I will update you after the refresh.

Nice.
I have some sample scripts here maybe it would help you.

Oracle DBI: Technical Questions

Hi all
I am now searching for some technical information about the Oracle Daily Business Intelligence with the Oracle EBS 11.5.10.
1) Would DBI only keep maximum of 3 years data by rolling forward? That is, while running the initial/incremental request set, only the last three years of summary/transaction data will be stored.
2) Would the DBI tablespaces (e.g. FII and BIS) reside on the other DB instance and server while running the initial/increment request? As it run on the production EBS database, it will get larger and larger bcs of the incremental for these OLAP data
3) What's the tablespace size needed for each dashboard or modules if I want to implement the GL, AP, AR, PO, and Maintenance DBI?
4) What's the server requirement to implement the DBI?
5) How much server resources (e.g. memory) need for each user access DBI pages?
Please kindly give a hand if you know any of the above.
Thank you very much!
Hi
Anyone knows the answers for the above questions?
Please kindly help! Thanks!

1) Would DBI only keep maximum of 3 years data by rolling forward? That is, while running the initial/incremental request set, only the last three years of summary/transaction data will be stored.
Ans: This is not true since I last worked with DBI and i presume it is the same case today. You can set the Global start date to whatever you wish and DBI will build summarization from that date onwards
2) Would the DBI tablespaces (e.g. FII and BIS) reside on the other DB instance and server while running the initial/increment request? As it run on the production EBS database, it will get larger and larger bcs of the incremental for these OLAP data
Ans: DBI is embedded with Oracle Applications, so it resides on the same server and database where your EBS is. Yes, the DBI tablespaces grows as time goes by because you are constantly adding data into it.
3) What's the tablespace size needed for each dashboard or modules if I want to implement the GL, AP, AR, PO, and Maintenance DBI?
Ans: Best place to get answer is to do a POC and find the sizing information as everything depends on the transaction volume in EBS. Alternatively contact Oracle support, log an SR using metalink
4) What's the server requirement to implement the DBI?
Ans: This information should be available in the DBI patches
5) How much server resources (e.g. memory) need for each user access DBI pages?
Ans: There is no difference between accessing a DBI page or an Oracle Apps self service form. So I don't know if this question has any significance

Hi Nilesh
Thanks for your information.
For 1) Even reset the Global Start Date, it seems it will only have the impacts on the summary tables, as you may still find lots of transaction data which is before the Global Start Date on some transaction tables or materialize views.

Peformance issue with iSetup for loading fnd_flex_value_norm_hierarchy recs

Hi
The customer site where I am working in currently has implemented isetup to load data from Hyperion DRM to Oracle GL. They are currently on 11i.AZ.F patch level.
The customer has constantly had problems in two areas with iSetup -
1. iSetup has a limitation that all existing children records plus new ones being added have to sent in the XML file provided as input to iSetup. For eg. one parent ENTXXX might have 15000 children records i.e records in FND_FLEX_VALUE_NORM_HIERARCHY. Now when 2 children are removed from this parent in Hyperion DRM and these two records sent to Oracle iSetup for getting deleted from the parent, the current implementation stipulates that iSetup requires in the XML input file the remaining 14998 records. Thats how it knows to remove the two nodes. This is a huge performance issue.
They are looking at loading into iSetup only the two deleted nodes with an action code of DELETE and let iSetup handle this rather than having to provide the entire list of children less the removed nodes for iSetup.
2. Can we load using the final xml file directly by calling any Java class/process directly rather than going through iSetup Loader Concurrent Request?
3. Is there any documentation on how to use the isetup Java classes?
Will upgrading to 11i.AZ.H patch level solve any of the above concerns/issues?
Regards,
Richard
#1. I guess, you are referring to the problems that you are encountering while loading GL COA. You may log SR against GL to know more details on how API loads data to instance. DELETE is a specific requirement in your case and I would suggest you to work with GL team and they may provide some solution or workaround to overcome this performance issue.
#2. No, concurrent program does good amount of pre-processing that you would not get if you directly call the java classes.
#3. Not sure, what you are exactly looking at. Are you looking for user guide to write your own iSetup API classes?
11i.AZ.H has got good amount of performances fixes overall and it is recommended release on top of 11.5.10.2CU. I would suggest you to upgrade to 11i.AZ.H.
Specific to GL COA issue, I don't think 11i.AZ.H would really help you much. It is very much functional issue with respect to API and you have to work with GL team to get workaround/solution. This may involve customizing the API according to your requirement.
Thanks
Mugunthan.
Thanks Mugunthan.
I will raise a SR with Oracle in regards to the limitation with iSetup for loading into Oracle GL.
Is there a guide to help develop iSetup API? Is this the future direction from R12 onwards, or is the iSetup API framework available in AZ.H patch set itself?
Please let us know.
We have user guide available on metalink on how to create reportable APIs. In R12, registering the API is available through UI whereas in 11i requires bit of customization.
How do you delete records from fnd_flex_value_norm_hierarchy table? Which Oracle standard API did you use? Please share your thoughts.

Creating new instance for sold out business

Our company is running in Oracle Apps 11.5.10 ebusiness suite. Total database size is around 2.5 TB.
One of the sub business( comprising of around 15% of total data) for the company has been sold to another company. The new company wants to have separate oracle apps instance to run their business. They are OK to use the same structure, same setups, same customization in the new instance.
What are the options to create the new instance ? Few things that we are thinking of are as bellow.
1. Clone the entire instance into the dev box --> purge/delete the other data ( around 85%) other than relevant to the business that has been sold --> Later separate the instance from the seller network and associate to the buyer network.
2. Create a new instance in the buyer network--> Apply all the patches and customizations as in the seller's instance --> load the setups as in the original instance--> migrate the master data and open transactional data --> validate and go live.
Can anyone advice about feasibility/pros-cons of these approach or suggest a better one ?
Thanks in advance
Hi user;
For me, I belive path 2 seems better than path 1, by the way i belive you can take support about your isse from your oracle local office
Hope it helps

Can someone please give me some more idea on the feasibility and pros and cons of two approach I have mentioned ?
The purge routines for various modules in 11i vary in their capabilities. Some modules have strong bug-free purge routines, while others have none at all.
Pl mention what modules are enabled on your instance.
Purging typically applies to temporary transient data - most data cannot be purged due to referential integrity constraints.
Option 2 seems to be the only option you have.

Hi,
Can someone please give me some more idea on the feasibility and pros and cons of two approach I have mentioned ?Your first approach is easier but may not be supported as you need to purge data (unless you purging the data of your custom modules which is not integrated with the application modules).
The second approach would take long time, but I believe is the right one. If you are not going to purge Oracle Apps data in the first approach, then I would say you can go with it.

[Ask] How copy records from one instance to another instance

Hi all, I need your technical advice related to business scenario which I have. My company currently share one EBS instance for 3 subsidiary companies, due to capacity and other reason; we plan to have 3 separated instances for each companies. The user has a requirement to share common data across those 3 instances, e.g. exchange rate, chart of account value, etc. Is it possible to have a database link across those 3 instances in order to share the common data? Or is there any other way to automate the updating process across the 3 instance. Many thanks for your assistance and suggestion. Regards,Henry H
That's not easy, if possible at all, but it'll depend from what you want to share exactly. Technically, what's the amount of tables you want to share ?
#tvCa-Oracle: let say I just want to share exchange rate table, how it can be possible for Oracle EBS R12 running in Oracle DB 11.2.0.1.0.
Apart from custom solutions, the database feature that does that may be called : StreamsBut, you'll need to review limitations, and this particularly in an eBS database What would be the strategy; all of the 3 are master (synched in all directions), or 1 who is master, all others slave ? If you say : Exchange RateSure that that info on itself may not be retrieved from an external source ? That way, you could break the logical link between the 3 different environments, because each just needs to synch with an external master ?
#tvCa-Oracle:The strategy is 1 becoming a master and the other 2 instances are becoming slave. Currently, the exchange rate is not taken from external source but manually enter to EBS. Really appreaciate for your help.
Here's one document that explains some things about Streams, from database view:How to Re-Synchronize Streams Replicated Objects Online (Doc ID 749036.1) But, to be able to use Streams in eBS context, it must be certified. This one also states it's not supported on 11i, and I don't see a document that states it is on R12. Knowing the structures and method used, it makes sense eBS has issues with it. It just doesn't like sudden import of records in regular tables, whatever the method used :Streams Complete Reference FAQ (Doc ID 752871.1)
Many thanks for sharing the document. I will review the document whether it can meet our requirement or not.
