Failed FTP connection? - Oracle Database Express Edition (XE)

I installed the express edition on Windows XP SP2 and when I try to access the database homepage I get the following connection errors.

221 Command Too Long. 2048 bytes maximum. Goodbye.

Seems to be one major issue.
As workaround deinstall and reinstall Oracle XE.
See Post "Install problem - ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist" for Details.

Thanks for the comments. A new version of the Windows addition which fixes this problem will be uploaded ASAP.

I get the same error. Anybody can tell me if that is link to the fact that i am running WinXP Home edition (SP2)

I'm also running Windows XP Home with SP2 and have the same problem.

All,
One problem could be spaces in the username used to install XE. See this thread for a workaround:

XE Oracle Database Express  Beta

I've just downloaded the new beta Oracle XE database. Database up and running but having trouble accessing the HTMLDB app (see error below). Maybe this is not the appropriate forum but am unable to connect to the XE specific Tom Kyte forum using my OTN user/pass. Any ideas ? (GHOME2400 is my XP node name and I can connect to port 8080 using an FTP client, I guess HTMLDB uses an FTP protocol !)

IGNORE
I've managed to connect to the XE forum. Other people are having same problem
Thanks
Does anybody know the solution of this problem ?!
Obviously, Oracle havn't been testing their new produkt thoroughly enough before the release. Perhaps they wanted me, and others, to do their work.
Has anybody found a solution to this problem yet?
Is there some security issue we need to resolve in order to overcome this problem?
It's a bug on the Windows Beta. To fix, the advice is to uninstall XE and then reinstall. Worked for me. See XE forum for more details.
Be sure that the Windows user name that you are installing with does NOT have a space in it (ie "John Doe"). This is a known problem and will be fixed in the next beta drop. The workaround is to deinstall, create a new windows user account (such as oracle), with administrator privileges, and reinstall from this account
Hope this helps
I have the same problem, and my user account name is "UTNuser", with no spaces anywhere

Go to Database Home Page Failure

I installed Oracle Database 10g Express on my Windows XP computer and wanted to get to the Home Page. A window with following text opened (Blankemeyer is my name):

I have the same problem!!
Why can't I see your link (forum not permissed)?
Several reasons why the problem may occur:
- you attempt install but not on administrator account
- you attempt install but using LAN administrator instead of local administrator
- you attempt install but using an administrator account that contains spaces ("John Doe")
- you have a oraociei10.dll, perhaaps from a taaaaod ro php install.
If any of these are true, try correcting the problem, remove the oracle software using the control panel "install/remove software' and reinstall.
Then move to th e XE forum as soon as possible.
I have a similar problem too, on Windows XP. When I select "Go to Database Home Page" I get the following message in my IE browser:
The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.
TIA for Help !
did you disable firewall before you installed?
are you on XP home?
are you using a local admin account?
There are many things left unanswered.

Most likely cause for this error is that the Windows user you installed with has a space in the name. De-install, Create another Windows user, grant that use administrator privileges, logon as that user and re-install.
If that doesn't help, try a search on this forum with the phrase "Unauthorised use of this FTP server is prohibited" - it will show a lot of hits
