ALTER & PL/SQL - Certification Community

Hi!
My problem is :
In PL*SQL procedure next command dont work:
ALTER SYSTEM KILL session 'nn,nn';
Result is: PLS-00103 Encountered the symbol "ALTER" when expecting one of ."
With SQL*PLUS its working correctly.
Is this syntax- or privilege-problem or is it totally exhibited in PL*SQL?

Uriagli,
Note that the required software for this application is : Oracle9i v9.2.0.2 or higher. 9.2.0.3 is a mandatory patch for XMLDB.
This application needs Oracle XMLDB to be installed properly. This can be tested as follows :
sqlplus "sys#ORCL92 as sysdba"SQL> set long 100000
SQL> set pagesize 0
SQL> select XDBUriType('/xdbconfig.xml').getXML()
from dual

If XML DB is correctly installed this should cause the XML DB configuration documents to be displayed.
Please look into : http://otn.oracle.com/sample_code/tech/xml/xmldb/XDBBasicDemo.pdf for more basic information.

Oracle XE Htmldb load csv file freezing

When I load a small csv file of 1.2mb it loads fine into a new table, but when I try a 25mb file, the progress bar goes half way and stops. I wait and it never completes loading.
Is there some error logging I can turn on to identify the problem or is there a glaring configuraton or memory adjustment that needs to be made?
Here is the info on my pc using Oracle10g xe on local host.

RMomaha,
Let me begin by saying that the web based data loading interface was never really designed for 25mb files. You're better off using SQL*Loader or external table (not sure if supported in XE). Most likely you're running into the timeout that occurs when uploading a file that large. You could try to adjust the timeout and see if that does anything:
1. Logon to XE as SYSTEM via SQL*Plus (not via the HTML DB interface)
2. Run the following SQL script to increase the timeout. This one sets it to 60 seconds:
select extractValue(object_value, '/xdbconfig/sysconfig/call-timeout') / 100
"Initial HTTP/FTP call timeout"
from xdb.xdb$config;
Prompt Updating HTTP/FTP call timeout
declare
cfg XMLType;
begin
select updateXML(dbms_xdb.cfg_get(),
'/xdbconfig/sysconfig/call-timeout/text()',
60 * 100)
into cfg from dual;
dbms_xdb.cfg_update(cfg);
end;
/
select extractValue(object_value, '/xdbconfig/sysconfig/call-timeout') / 100
"Current HTTP/FTP call timeout"
from xdb.xdb$config;
You'll have to restart the DB for the timeout to take effect.
Sergio
Hi Sergio.
Yes, I already adjusted the timeout.
I will have to use command line sql loader to get the data in. Assuming of course that command is available for 10gxe.
Thanks for the info!!
sqlldr is there for sure:

The "timeout" bug still persists in Oraxle XE un. Production vesion of 24 Feb.
select extractValue(object_value, '/xdbconfig/sysconfig/call-timeout') / 100
"Initial HTTP/FTP call timeout" from xdb.xdb$config;
gives me a result - 3 sek.
There was discatiion about that in the forum, but
Let's that bug is not bugging us any more.
Hi
You can use external tables too. I tried it:
SQL> create directory test_dir as '/tmp';
Directory created.
SQL> grant read on directory test_dir to test;
Grant succeeded.
SQL> grant write on directory test_dir to test;
Grant succeeded
connect test/test

   logfile test_dir:'empxt%a_%p.log'
   fields terminated by ','
   missing field values are null
   (empno,ename, deptno))
LOCATION ('empxt1.dat')) REJECT LIMIT UNLIMITED;
SQL> select * from empxt;

2222,Kong,20
No. The timeout bug has been fixed in the production release of XE. With this fix, the timeout value in xdbconfig.xml "/xdbconfig/sysconfig/call-timeout" is the timeout just for reading the first byte of the HTTP request from the browser. When it comes to the point of reading the content of the file-upload from the browser, we use 20x timeout value (i.e. 60 seconds in this case, which should be good enough for most cases). And if the server indeed timeout, you should see a log message in the database trace file that indicates so if you set the log level to 3.
Would you try setting the log level to 3 and see if you get any message in the database trace file?
sqlplus system/<password>SQL> exec dbms_epg.set_global_attribute('log-level', 3)
SQL> exit
and look for trace files under <oraclexe-dir>/app/oracle/admin/XE/bdump/xe_s00*_*.trc ?
I am using OracleXE univ. production version.
I was unable to upload my app about 1M. The problem was same as Beta. I check the timeout and found it set to 3 sec. I changed it to 15 sec., according to the discussion forum... Everything works fine now.

Hi,
have a look at this link for steps how to perform such an export: http://arjudba.blogspot.com/2009/02/how-to-take-data-pump-export-on-another.html
I think, you are missing the dblink in orcl or your tnsnames.ora is not correct on the 192.168.3.51 (not a reference with remote_ABC), or it is other named. From the above document try first the connection through SQLPLUS, if that works, then the export will also work.

If you got this far, you have your network link set up properly. You have hit some sort of bug in Data Pump or something that Data Pump uses to export metadata. You should contact Oracle support to see if there is a know issue here and get a patch.

ORA-29534 while installing Target Scheme.

Hi,
I did a server side OWB installation,created a Runtime Repos, and Runtime Access User without any problem.
Installing a Target scheme however gives me the following error.

Nobody?
Sorry, didn't get to this earlier.
I believe you are hitting a known issue with XML Toolkit in Oracle 9.0.1. This is documented in OWB Install Guide http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/html/B11000_02/01requir.htm#1145031 , scroll to "1.2.2.1 Oracle 8.1.7 or Oracle9i Database":
"Install the Oracle9i database with the Oracle XML Toolkit option. Use the XML Toolkit shipped with Oracle 8.1.7 or Oracle9i Release 2 (9.0.2). Do not use the XML Toolkit shipped with Oracle9i Release 9.0.1"
Nikolai
Thx for your response.
Is there an easy way to 'upgrade' the XML toolkit so that i can install the target schema properly? Is it the XML pl/sql, XML Java. I'm unable to find more info concerning this problem.
Br4m
thx
Bram,
Some questions...
- What version of the database do you run?
- Have you checked by selecting from USER_ERRORS (or DBA_ERRORS, if you connect as SYSTEM) why the Java classes are invalid? That may tell us more about what is going on.
- Did you check on Metalink (http://metalink.oracle.com) whether there are any similar issues reported?
Let us know on the forum what the select from USER_ERRORS gives you.
Thanks,
Mark.

Bram,
Let's try to isolate the problem: can you perform the following statement:
alter java class "/63e5c42c_XMLLoadControllerFac" compile
/
After that, assuming it tells you compilation with errors, type:
show error
Let me know what the error shows. The WB_OLAP_LOAD_CUBE, WB_OLAP_LOAD_DIMENSION and WB_OLAP_LOAD_DIMENSION_GENUK will remain invalid, unless you run a 9.2.0.4.1 database (which obviously you don't).
I think your issues will be related to the installation of the XML utilities in your database, but the above error would learn us more.
Thanks,
Mark.

Bram,
Are you planning to use the XML toolkit to load XML files into the database?
Assuming you are not... because most customers are not, I want to suggest the following (that would enable you to continue to work and gives us more breathing room to figure out what is the issue).
First question is: do you run the assistant on Windows or on Unix? The answer to that question kicks in below.
In the folder <owb home>\owb\rtasst (change \ into / for unix...) there is a file rscredrv.xml. That file contains two mentions of xmltk.jar, once for Windows, once for Unix. If you run on Windows, then you can change (MAKE SURE TO BACKUP THE FILE FIRST) the existing entry:
<SPAWN
done="055"
action="stop"
file="..\win32\loadjava.bat"
platform="Windows NT"
tag1=" -thin"
tag2=" -verbose"
tag3=" -order"
tag4=" -resolve"
tag5=" -u"
tag6=' %user/%password#(DESCRIPTION"="(ADDRESS"="(PROTOCOL"="TCP)(HOST"="%host)(PORT"="%port))(CONNECT_DATA"="(SERVICE_NAME"="%serviceName)))'
tag7=" ../../lib/int/xmltk.jar"
tag8=" ../../lib/int/rtsxml.jar"
tag9=" ../../lib/int/matchmergert.jar"
/>
into:
<SPAWN
done="055"
action="stop"
file="..\win32\loadjava.bat"
platform="Windows NT"
tag1=" -thin"
tag2=" -verbose"
tag3=" -order"
tag4=" -resolve"
tag5=" -u"
tag6=' %user/%password#(DESCRIPTION"="(ADDRESS"="(PROTOCOL"="TCP)(HOST"="%host)(PORT"="%port))(CONNECT_DATA"="(SERVICE_NAME"="%serviceName)))'
tag7=" ../../lib/int/rtsxml.jar"
tag8=" ../../lib/int/matchmergert.jar"
/>
(take out the tag for xmltk.jar and rename the last two from tag8 and tag9 to tag7 and tag8). If you run on Unix, do the equivalent with the entry that is below:
<SPAWN
done="060"
action="stop"
file="../unix/loadjava"
platform="SunOS"
tag1=" -thin"
tag2=" -verbose"
tag3=" -order"
tag4=" -resolve"
tag5=" -u"
tag6=' %user/%password#(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=%host)(PORT=%port))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=%serviceName)))'
tag7=" ../../lib/int/rtsxml.jar"
tag8=" ../../lib/int/matchmergert.jar"
/>
Save the file, and re-run the runtime assistant. The result should be that it runs through successfully, but it will not install the file that is causing the problems. As long as you do not plan to use the XML toolkit to load XML documents in the database, you should be fine with that environment.
In the meantime, I will verify with development whether you may run into any issues (which I do not expect).
Thanks,
Mark.
Bram,
Also, just as an FYI, I tried this myself, ran a number of deployments and executions and it works fine.
Thanks,
Mark.
Hmm, I guess you mean you tried installing a Target Schema on a similar database version?
That is the way it should be, but have you got any clue what is wrong with mine? Or have you got some help on how to handle this problem?
Best R.
Bram
Ow Ow, I missed your post above, assuming you made only 1 post. Therefore the 'FYI it works...' seemed a bit bizarre.
Anyway, thx for helping me so far. Since we are not processing any XML files, modifying the file did the trick.
The target schema is installed properly now. I will keep you up to date if I run in any other issues concerning this.
Best Regards
-Bram
