How to create flexible report? - Reports

Hello,
Our users frequently change the requirement of reports. So our management ask us to develop a more flexible report and allow them to select the data. How to accomplish this? Or is there any 3rd party reporting tools?
Thanks,
George

Hi,
you can achieve it with Customizing Reports at Runtime. To know more about Customizing Report ,
Please refer http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/reports/pdf/A73173_01.pdf.
Then, use following command line to run the customized report
rwrun60 userid=scott/tiger report=cond.rdf customize=e:\orant\tools\doc60\us\rbbr60\cond.xml
Thanks,
Puvan.

Hi Puvan,
Thank you for your help, but the PDF file does not exist. Could you suggest another file?
Regards,
George

Report in excel format with proper alignment

Hi all,
We are using Reports 10g R2.
Users want to see the report (invoked from forms) in excel format. Of course, I gave "spreadsheet" as the des type and alignment is the major task. Already more than 500 & above reports are there. So it will not be easy to align the existing report.
Please give me an idea to find a solution for this.

Rajesh
can you please explain in detail? Is it possible in Oracle Report builder itself??
i am using XMl Publisher responsibility to develope excel or pdf report.
first u should have XMl Publisher responsibility.
then only we can use.
by using desformat also we can get but i haven't used it.

Read MetaLink Note 333080.1 for tips and techniques with using the spreadsheet output of Reports.
For new report, your idea will be useful. I want to change the existing reports(rdf) in such a way that it should be opened in excel with good format...
any clues?
There is no "easy button" for that. That MetaLink note applies to existing reports as well as new ones. If you want your existing reports to have a better format for Excel, then you need to adjust the layouts.
Ok fine. Sorry to ask one more info...Is there any oracle supported tool to convert pdf displayed report to excel?

Priya
hi priya,
there is a tool called
REP2EXCEL CONVERTER
it is a oracle designed tool.
try it.

How about implement the security check by searching generated reports or let it run if not generated, namely in the report-calling env.?

Hello,
this is possible with Reports version >= 9.0.2
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/reports/pluginxchange/index.html
Secure PDF Destination
This destination creates a secure PDF that is password-protected.
This sample is tested with Oracle Reports 9i, Oracle Reports 10g (9.0.4), and Oracle Reports 10g Release 2 (10.1.2).
For the integration of this solution in Oracle Apps, you should post a message in the Oracle Apps forum

Multiple tabbed excel

Hi,
I have a requirement where i need to put data in various tabs in excel, is it possible to genrate excel report with multiple tabs through oracle report builder, if yes then please guide me how to go about it.
Thanks...
Ashish
I don't think so. A possible solution could be to generate a "generic" excel-file with some library like JExcelApi or Apache POI. Doyou use Oracle Forms as dialog-language?
Hi Andreas,
Thanks for the reply, no i dont use oracle forms for any purpose, we make use of oracle reports only.
Can you throw some light on the alternative ways to generate the excel reports mentioned in your reply below.
Thanks...
Ashish Goel
Google is your friend http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=Apache+POI+generate+excel
Hello,
you can use XML-format to generate reports with more than one worksheet using PL/SQL only and there are free packages to do so:
https://xml-spreadsheet.samplecode.oracle.com/
or
https://exceldocumenttype.samplecode.oracle.com/

How to make a report to a form?

Hi,
I wrote a Oracle report in Report Builder, how do I make my report to a 'Form' format?
Thanks,
Jun
Hi Jun,
Which version of Reports are you using?
Please write more detail on what you mean by "make my report to a 'Form' format", so that we can suggest suitably.
If you want to create a report using the "Form Letter" style, pl look at the Building Reports Manual, Chapter 13:
http://otn.oracle.com/products/reports/htdocs/getstart/docs/B10310_01/orbr_formletter.htm#1009175
Navneet.
I am using report 6i.
Thanks,
Jun

Hi,
I created a report in Oracle 6i, and I want to put it in Oracle Forms Runtime.
How do I do it?
Thank,
J
Hello,
If want to run your report and display the output, by using suitable logic in your form, you can do that by writting PL/SQL code to invoke your report, using the RUN_REPORT_OBJECT builtin available in Forms 6i.
Please take a look at the Forms Online Help for information and examples on how to use this builtin.
Thanks,
The Oracle Reports Team.
Hi Jun,
You can also look at the whitepaper on "Integration of Oracle9iAS Reports Services in Oracle9iAS Forms Services"
http://otn.oracle.com/products/reports/htdocs/getstart/whitepapers/index.html
